Indian General Service Medal 1854 to a Civilian Post Offices Superintendent
John Patrick Barker held various posts in the India Post Office amongst which he was Superintendent of Post Offices 1890, Superintendent Allahabad 1900, Presidency Postmaster Bombay 1912.
In the Englishmans Overland Mail 10th April 1913 his retirement, as Presidency Postmaster, is announced having served 32 years in the Indian Postal Service. He was reported as leaving Bombay for Western Australia to join his sons.
John Patrick Barker died 3rd June 1921 at Katanning, Western Australia and is buried at Kojonup, W.A.
He married Kathleen Raleigh in Calcutta on the 25th April 1884. Their daughter Kathleen Ellen Raleigh Barker married in MadrasĀ 1911 giving John Patrick as her father.
Son Edward Patrick, born Calcutta, served in the Great War for Australian Forces having previously served for the Madras Volunteers
A Mr J. P. Barker is on the medal roll for the Delhi Durbar 1903 Medal as Postmaster, Durbar Head Post Office.
