George Thomas Hammond joined the Royal Navy 24th March 1902 signing up for 12 years then continuing through the Great War to March 1919.
Medal Roll for the Great War confirms he was awarded the 1914/15 Star trio as S.P.O. issued whilst serving HMS Turquoise.
Hammond was born 21st August 1883 at Walberton, Arundel, West Sussex and he was a labourer when he joined the Royal Navy. The 1911 Census confirms him living in Walberton and being a Royal Navy Leading Stoker at that time.
