Anglo Boer War Queen’s South Africa medal with 4 clasps to 4019 Lance Corporal G Kemp, Royal Sussex Regiment.
George Horace Kemp was a 19 year old labourer born in Heathfield, Sussex, when he enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Eastbourne June 1892. He effectively, immediately transferred to the Royal Sussex Regiment at Chichester 2nd July 1892.
The medal roll for the 1st battalion Royal Sussex confirms medal and clasp. He served in India from November 1893 to February 1902 from which time he was awarded the India Medal 1896 with Punjab and Tirah clasps. He then served in South Africa from February 1902 to September 1902 earning this 4 clasp QSA medal. He re-enlisted for service in the Great War with 2nd Bn Royal Sussex Regiment attached A.S.C. Supply Police. He entered France 31st December 1915 (5779 Royal Sussex, 217078 Cpl Labour Corps).

George Kemp died in Balham, London,1948 aged 74 years.
