William Hoad enlisted at Chichester January 1892. He was a 19 year old labourer, born Hallington, Hastings, East Sussex when he attested. He served a total 12 years with the colours of which close to 11 years were spent in India. The medal roll for the 2nd battalion Royal Sussex confirms medal and clasp.
