An interesting mixed service medal group covering Great War and WW2 service.

The young Joseph Daniel Mullins jnr, a London born blacksmith’s striker, served in the Great War initially as a Drummer in the West Yorkshire Regiment for 12 months before transferring to the Royal Sussex Regiment for 9 months (British War Medal and Victory Medal) prior to joining the fledgling Royal Air Force.

The West Yorkshire Regiment medal roll for the British War medal and Victory medal pair confirms Mullins was serving 13th Royal Sussex Regiment and that he was discharged on re-enlistment in R.A.F. No 334299, 18/02/1919.

By 1920 he was serving with the HQ Coast Guard, 210 Squadron, Calshot (Flying Boat Base) from 1920. He served as Royal Air Force Motor Boat Crew at Calshot. The 1921 Census records him as AB2 Aircraft Hand, Dennys Wood, New Forest, Hampshire (on leave). Corporal Mullins was awarded the Air Efficiency Medal 19th July 1951

He married Isabela Avent 1928 in London. He died of stomach cancer 1957 in Hackney with his employment recorded as a Stockbrokers Messenger.
