The India medal and Long Service medal pair of bandsman James Kennedy, Royal Sussex Regiment.
Kennedy was a 15 year 11 month old musician when he enlisted into the 1st Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. He served for 5 years in India (1897-1902) also serving in Crete (1905-07) and Malta (1904-5) as well as home service. Total years service 24 years.
His India medal with Punjab Frontier and Tirah clasps is confirmed on his papers and the medal roll. His Long Service medal was conferred 1st October 1917 as is also confirmed on his service papers. He did not qualify for any Great War medals.
His papers also confirm his home life moving from London to Newhaven, Sussex.
