The superb medal group of Lieutenant Colonel Norman Ballans of the Sultanate of Oman Police
Medals – Sultanate of Oman Order of the Special Emblem, Oman 15th Anniversary Medal, Police Long Service and Good Conduct medal (EIIR) named to SUPT. NORMAN BALLANS. The group is swing mounted on a bar for wear.
The Omani Order of the Special Emblem box of issue accompanies the group. This box and medal, made by Asprey of London is with the original and exceptionally rare endowment scroll, ribbon bar and a small selection of badges. The silver medal itself bears the Asprey makers mark and is hallmarked.
Grismby born, in 1935, Norman Ballans served his Police career initially in the Lincolnshire Police Force rising to the rank of Chief Superintendent. He then was attached to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Police prior to taking a role in command of the Sultanate of Oman Police Force.

As Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Oman Police he was awarded the Sultanate of Oman Order of the Special Emblem in 1985.
Notably he is mentioned in various newspaper articles charting cases he was involved in, his promotion to the Inspectorate and his time of the Gulf War in 1991 whereby he and his wife were preparing for British ex-pat refugees from the 1991 Iraq War.
