Royal Humane Society Medal 1856.
Awarded to WILLIAM TALLACK SEAMAN. H.M.S. RETRIBUTION 8 April 1856.
Case number 15847 William Tallack Seaman and Andrew Grant of H.M.S. Retribution were claimants. A boy named Garrett belonging to HMS Retribution accidentally fell out of a boat into the sea at Spithead, Portsmouth. Both men jumped overboard, swam to his assistance and supported him until picked up by a boat. Referred to the Portsmouth Branch by Captain Fisher and it was confirmed they were awarded the Bronze Medal.
William Tallack was born in Stoke Damerel, 5th October 1827. He entered the Royal Navy in 1846 on HMS Stromboli. He later served in HM Coastguard. Overall he served in excess of 20 years during which time he served in the Baltic and was awarded the Baltic medal, which would have been unnamed.
