Lt Commander William (Bill) Bolton R.N.R.
Lt. Commander Bill Bolton, Royal Navy Reserve was a 3 times decorated Second World War naval reserve officer. Awarded the D.S.C., R. D. and M.I.D. Bolton served in the Battle of the Atlantic and the Normandy Landings as a Corvette and Captain class frigate commander.
Distinguished Service Cross: London Gazette 1st January 1944.
Mentioned in Despatches: London Gazette 11th June 1942.
Royal Navy Reserve Decoration: London Gazette 25th June 1944
His commands:
HMS Whitehorn (T127) – a Minesweeping trawler from 27th March 1940 to February 1941.
HMS Narcissus (K74) a Flower class corvette from 2nd June 1941 to 3rd December 1943.
HMS Gardiner (K478): a Captain class frigate from January 1944 to mid 1945.
The DSC and MID awards relate to his service on HMS Narcissus which was part of the B3 Ocean Escort Group during the Battle of the Atlantic. The Reserve Decoration followed in 1944. In addition to the service in the Battle of the Atlantic he was further involved in the Normandy Landings and the Gibraltar convoys.

Plus His ribbon bar, Medal issue slip. A letter on headed paper of HMS Gardiner in which he states “things get a bit tense at times”. A small selection of copy photographs in which he is identifiable and some newspaper clippings. Also, 2 editions of the book The Echo of a Fighting Flower – The Story of HMS Narcissus in WWII in which Bolton is mentioned. By crew member Peter Coy.
