Peter Woolley attested into the 28th Bde, No 808 on the 27th Jan 1877. He was a Hatter from Stockport, Cheshire and was aged 18 years and 6 months. He attested at Ashton-under-Lyme. His medical papers confirm the above details and that he later transferred from 28th Brigade 6th Foot to 15th Brigade 30th Foot then 59th with the number 1435. His statement of service confirms this. His father was Joseph Woolley of Stockport, Cheshire. Note the medal is engraved as 1855.

This medal and clasp is confirmed on his papers.

The medal roll is renowned for being incomplete so it is extremely fortunate we have traced his service papers to verify the medal. He is spelt variously on his papers as Woolley and Wooley.
