Great War medal trio of Private Charles Collar of the 5th Battalion, Essex Regiment who was wounded and later died and is buried at Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
Charles Collar of the 1st 5th Essex was wounded on the 8th September 1915 at Gallipoli. He died of enteric fever at Malta on the 6th October 1915 and he is Remembered with Honour at Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
Charles Collar lived in Great Yeldham, Essex. It is noted that The Essex Chronicle, September 1915 reported a memorial service at Castle Hedingham. Collar is recorded as a farm worker in the village. He had a brother George in the same battalion who was also wounded and another brother Alfred who was serving in France.
