Great War brothers Casualty medal group consisting – 2 Memorial Plaques and a British War Medal and Victory Medal pair to –
Arthur Redfern. 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, died 16th April 1915 and He is Remembered with Honour at Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
Harold Redfern. “A” Company. 1st/4th Bn. West Riding Regiment. Killed in Action 4th July 1917. Remembered with Honour at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. War Diary records very heavy shelling along with an unsuccessful attack on Thiepval.

Memorial Plaque (ARTHUR REDFERN)
Matthew Longden and Mary Ellen Redfern had 3 sons, Arthur, Leonard and Harold all born whilst his father was a Royal Artillery bombardier based in Woolwich, London. Matthew Longden Redfern was a native of Longnor, Staffordshire. Mary Ellen was a native of nearby Macclesfield. Mary died in 1894 and he re-married to Emily Sellors in 1898 who died in 1900. Matthew and Emily had a son also named Matthew Longden Redfern in 1900.
Father, 68990 Bdr, Royal Artillery was a Boer War casualty, he died of disease 22 Jun 1900 in Johannesburg.
