India General Service Medal 1854 NORTHWEST FRONTIER Clasp named to: 445 DRUMMER. R. EAGLES. H. Ms. 1st Bn. 6Th REGT.
Robert Eagles was a 15 year old boy when he attested into the army on the 4th December 1858. He was born near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
His papers, which are on line, show that he served 2 periods in the East Indies, the first from 9th January 1860 to 24th May 1862 (2yrs 136 days) and secondly from 8th December 1867 to 27th April 1874 (6 years 141 days). He served in excess of 24 years. During his career he achieved the rank of Sergeant having previously been promoted and reduced in rank from Corporal for drunkenness.
The medal with clasp is confirmed on the Regimental medal roll and on his papers. He married Ellen Jane Newman.
