George Henry Gower was also awarded the Baltic Medal (HMS Blenheim) and the China Medal (HMS Chesapeake).
Detail – George Henry Gower was born at Lyminge, Kent on 27th May 1836. He joined the Royal Navy as Ordinary Seaman on H.M.S. Fisgard on 8th November 1854. He originally signed up for 10 years.
He served aboard the following ships gaining medals where indicated:
H.M.S. BLENHEIM from 14th March 1855 to 4th June 1856 – Ord Seaman 2nd class to Ord Seaman 1st class. Awarded Baltic Medal 18/05/1857.
H.M.S. MAJESTIC from 5th June 1856 to 15th May 1857 – Ord Seaman 1st class.
H.M.S. PRINCESS CHARLOTTE from 16th May 1857 to 19th October 1859 (to A.B. rank).
H.M.S. CHESAPEAKE 20th October 1859 to 17th October 1861. Leading Seaman. Awarded China Medal (no clasp) – issued October 1862 on Stromboli.
H.M.S. STROMBOLI 18th October 1861 to 20th February 1865. Captn F. F.
He then served as Commissioned Boatman. H.M. S. PENELOPE, Coast Guard until pensioned off 29th May 1875.
